#100poems Nine: Christmas Card

It’s Bethlehem, at night. The sky is clear.
Men dressed as foreigners are bringing gifts.
Shepherds descend from hills, angels from clouds
A stable glows with preternatural light.
Above it glows a star, which takes the shape
Of slow and painful death that is to come.
The greetings of the season to you all.
